About Sweet Hazel's Sweets

My blog will focus on baking and traveling. I chose these two because I want to share with others my love and wonderful experiences I have when I bake for others, and the intersting things I taste and see when I travel. If you are wondering where the name came from, I named my bake shop after my mother who LOVED sweets, and also like to travel, but I think she liked the sweets more. On October 20, 2015, my mother passed on, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, although this disease took over her mind and body and her world she still remained the sweet gentle woman she has always been. So here's to sweets for my sweet Hazel.

Donuts and Diner

My family and I usually try to attend church every Sunday, and occasionally we will treat ourselves to breakfast after church.  One particular Sunday we decided to try a diner not to far from our neighborhood called Pena's Donuts and Diner.  It a very small diner, so you have to get there before the crowd arrives, and if we make it to the earlier service at church, we usually get there before the crowd.

Once you enter into the diner you will be faced with something that looks like this:

By the way that is crumbled bacon on top of the donuts and kolaches.

After you have finished salivating over the counter's display of donuts, once seated at your table, you will then begin looking at all of the wonderful options on the diner's menu.  While trying to decide what I wanted to order, I drank a very good cup of freshly brewed coffee and I decided on the 3 Berry & Basil Pancakes.

The pancakes were very moist, buttery and sweet with just a hint of basil, what a wonderful combination, and what a wonderful breakfast!
